Chocolate hearts and pink roses
On Valentine's Day
Are simulated piece offerings
That won't remove betrayal's stain
From the charred embers of my soul.
EDIBLE PARADISE
Happiness is
A pint of beef lo mein
And a strawberry sundae
Nestled beneath a Mexican blanket
On a remote island at sunset.
FABLE FACADE
We live in a Pinocchio world
Wearing lies on our wooden faces
Walking around without fear of consequence
Hoping that no one will notice
That we are nothing but marionettes pulling false strings.
OFF COURSE
Driving around for hours
In the obsidian night
Cruising along random roads
Destination unknown
Searching for the path of least resistance
Trying to silence the churning turbulence
Within my anxious soul
Looking for a beacon of hope
To steer me in the right direction.
STOCKADE OF SOLITUDE
Prisoner of loneliness
Shackled in silent chains
Of bitter sadness and regret
The remnants of pain still echo
In my bloodless veins.
STORMS OF SIMILARITY
Man's fury
Erupts in each of us
In different designs and patterns
But triggers the same catalyst
Of extreme emotion.
TRIBAL EROSION
How can you find the pearl of peace
In the desolate sands of suffering
When each granule of gracefulness is washed away
By the violent tides of unforeseen tragedy
Plundering the last fragile remnants of civilization
From the stalwart arms of autonomy
Leaving behind a shipwreck of mortal extinction.
VESTIBULE OF VIGILANCE
Some nights are endless
The hours tick away
Like a jar of dripping honey
An insomniac's nightmare
Tossing and turning
Like a chef twirling pizza dough
The breath of sleep
Becomes a remote island
Disconnected from the synapses of lassitude
Pleading desperately
To escape this vigilant vortex
And enter a restful state of unconscious reverie.
